Husband vs. Mom

Okay so lately my husband has been having a rough time finding work after his last job didn’t pan out. And my mom always love to medal into everyone’s business so we try not to tell her. Well she found out he is still not working so when we visited she waited till I walked away to say something very rude to him about it. She kept on with the comments and now they aren’t on very good terms like before. I’m very upset but I don’t know why she would jump on him like that as she’s always love him? How would you handle this!
