Am I overreacting?

I took my husband with me to a social function with my previous employers last night. He’s never GREAT around people- kind of prickly- but I’ve grown to accept that’s just his personality.

We chatted with my old boss about how we’re from another state and how we decided we’re going to stay in the state we live in, where my husband is stationed currently, because I have established an amazing career and it is a great state for social services- my husband’s intended career.

My old boss turned to my husband and asked why he liked it here. After several snarky comments about how he doesn’t, he said “she wants to stay here. I want to stay married.”

I was MORTIFIED. He never told me any of this. He wants to move back to where we were originally because his high school buddies and parents are there. We’re in our 20s, married for 4 years, and we’re trying for a baby. Why is he so attached to his old high school glory days???

UPDATE: thank you all! I talked to him. It wasn’t a joke- we’ve been here 5 years and he has lots of friends, but he’s scared about getting out of the military. He’s never known anywhere else and wants the security of being around his parents. We’re staying here for the meantime and all is well.
