Should I accept milk donation?

Question

I don’t plan on breastfeeding second baby due to personal reasons (I exclusively pumped for first). After confiding in a friend about it, she offered her excess milk to me. Should I accept? I’m trying to not think of it as “weird” but I’m not sure how I feel about it. Thoughts?

hell yeah ESPECIALLY if she’s just offering and not expecting you to pay. that shit is liquid GOLD and normally gets sold for so much, ultimately breastmilk is better for babies immune system than formula so i think if you can breastfeed without any of the shitty parts definitely go for it

I think I would.. it’s free. I just researched & it said back in the day breastfeeding was the only way to feed a child so women would help other women who couldn’t. Many women were hired to breastfeed children.

I would if your friend’s lifestyle seems generally healthy (as in, she’s not taking a bunch of medication or binge drinking). A drink here and there wouldn’t worry me though. 
Also I’d make sure she doesn’t have any medical conditions that could somehow impact her breastmilk- probably just google something like “sharing breastmilk” to see a list of what kind of things are considered concerns for breastmilk sharing. 
But honestly, if she’s offering it for free and your alternative is formula, unless she’s living a wild lifestyle or has some kind of disease, I’d take it! Think of the money you’d save! 💸💸 either way it’s a perfectly healthy food for your baby.

I donated over 4000 oz with my first baby on Human Milk for Human Babies. It’s a huge blessing. If you’re considering it, just be sure to ask the usual questions... is she drinking alcohol or caffeine, does she take medication, does she smoke, etc

I wouldn’t as you don’t know what is in her milk; alcohol, drugs, medications 
When you become breastmilk donor they screen everything to ensure milk is safe 
If you feel that it’s safe for drinking then go for it but personally I wouldn’t

I donated my excess milk with my last babe because I had an oversupply. I did it through a milk bank though, and I made that decision as opposed to direct donation because I would hate for either my collection or storage methods, or something in my milk, made a baby sick. The milk bank had strict screening and collection methods and they pasteurized. Milk is a bodily fluid. But like everything parenting related, you need to make the decision that is best for you and your family
