So we have to chose a pediatrician. Has anyone read any scholarly articles (not just mommy blogs) about male versus female pediatricians? The gender is for the pediatric provider, not the gender of the infant patient. Its been studied that female PCPs/internal medicine doctors tend to listen to & believe adult patients who report pain & discomfort versus male PCPs who tend to minimize and invalidate patient’s report of pain. Of course there are exceptions. I know this. That being said, have there been similar findings for female pediatricians? Are infant outcomes better for a female pediatrician versus a male? I tried searching scholarly articles on the topic but couldn’t find anything. Anyone have any good sources they could share?
