Have you had your oldest child in the delivery room?

I’m 29 weeks so it’s about time i start thinking about it. My husband and I agreed to let my mom come over and watch our son. And he’d just go pick him up the day after I give birth.
We honestly wanted to keep him in the delivery room with us but we know it’s a bit of a hassle. He’s gonna be 1 and 10 months. He’s very well behaved and will stay playing and eating for long periods of time. But I guess I just don’t want him to think I’m hurting too bad, he has a big heart and will want to hold my hand the whole time.
Has anyone had your child in the delivery room with you? How did that go? Would you do it again?

My 3.5 year old daughter is very well behaved and can entertain herself for hours. I would never want her to see me giving birth at an age where she doesn’t understand what is going on. I feel it would be traumatizing.

I wouldn't have a child that young there. My 5 year old was there when I labored and she cried seeing me in pain. I went into labor in the middle of the night and thankfully labor quickly but she still was there for the laboring portion until a family member was able to get there and take her to the waiting room for me. So I definetely wouldnt have a 1 year old when they cant understand why you're in pain like that.

I feel like it’d be way easier for you to have someone watch him and bring him up later in the day to the hospital. I can’t imagine an almost two year old being occupied long enough for you to have a baby. I feel looks it’d bring a long of unnecessary stress if you have someone to stay with him.

It would be alot less stressful to let your mum look after him, if you had no other option then it's understandable but you have someone.

We plan on having our daughter in there, if she wants to be. But, she is 8 and does her own thing. The key to knowing if it's a good idea is know that it can take a long time, emergencies can happen, and they will need to know to stay out of the way. If you're going to have someone else besides you and your husband watch your child it's a better idea because you will both be caught up in it to watch your other one.

My hospital actually has a rule that no one under 14 can be in the delivery room.

i wouldn’t do it. i would have a parent or grandparent watch the child until the baby was here. i think i was at school when my mom gave birth to my sister.

We had our 1 1/2 year old in the room. It was a home birth, so no rules to deal with where we couldn't, and we had literally no one who could watch her. So we made it work. My husband held her and I talked to her and reassured her between contractions. She was fine, I was fine, and she wasn't traumatized. 🤷‍♀️
