Please help I could use some advice

My period is 7 days late today, which never happens to me, and I want to talk to my SO about it before I test, that way whatever the result is I don't have to experience it alone... but we aren't really trying for a baby, don't get me wrong I would love one, but we are still long distance, and I don't think either of us could afford it at this point. I don't want to stress him out, especially if it turns out negative, but I really don't want to go through all of these feelings alone. I think I might wait until my period is 3 weeks late that way I can make sure that I'm not jumping the gun, maybe it's just late?
