For the Europeans 🇪🇺 What changes would you like to see in the EU?

We rarely talk about the EU and it's policies, perhaps it's about time we get our magnifying glasses out and take a look at it. 
With recent events, it seems that several countries are beginning to see tensions rise between their civilians and the EU. 
For example the UK going through Brexit. Italy thinking of a referendum. And during the European elections, more right-wing and Eurosceptic MEP's were elected. 
On that basis, 
Do you think the EU is still fit for purpose? 
Do you think your country gets benefits from the EU, that it wouldn't independently? 
Do you think countries are blaming the EU for their problems? 
I.e. Boris Johnson suggested we could have a better healthcare system without paying funds to the EU. 
What changes would you like to see in the EU?

My mind is scrambled right now but all I want to say is that if we leave without a deal next month, were all fucked. Research, especially medical, which I am studying, is rumored to take a massive hit after we leave. This will put millions at a disadvantage. The UK is a net beneficiary and we got out more than what we put in when it comes to science and technology research . Obviously this should never have happened but bere we are.
The UK is also one of the biggest contributors to the EU, so that will be interesting to see once we leave. The govt has "guaranteed to replace the EU funding" within the next couple of years, but that is solely based on a deal being created in time.
Once again, i think were fucked tbh, we were better off staying.

Ireland owes a lot to the EU, we now have motorways, tech, better education, and have had a HUGE shift in the rights of women and the LGBT+ community. i dont know what we’d do if we ever left

As a ‘Remainer’ Brit, I truly believe that the reason we are leaving the EU is not due to the EU itself.
When the Conservative Party was elected in 2010, they introduced austerity cuts to try and repair the UKs huge deficit following the 2008 financial crash. This completely gutted the working class and the poorest & disadvantaged in our society. Services and support they relied on to live were taken away and so many people found themselves either without a job or on a very low paid, unreliable ‘zero hours’ contract job.
Coupled with this, right wing newspapers such as the Daily Mail,, The Sun, The Express and The Telegraph - constantly published articles blaming the economic struggles on immigrants, poor people (who they like to call scroungers) and the EU.
The right wing media hate the EU as the EU has brought in much legislation over the years that have upset the billion £ parent companies of these papers. ‘Shocking’ legislation such as a cap on working hours, maternity leave rights, workers rights, health and safety regulations on consumer goods. All this legislation BENEFITS everyday normal people but costs the tiny number of billionaires, so they managed to convince the everyday people that the EU was the big bad bogeyman and we needed to leave it.
And to finish up - in January 2020 the EU is introducing legislation to force individuals and companies that hide their money in tax havens abroad, to start paying tax on those assets. This is a huge positive thing for most people - as most people don’t have millions of pounds hidden in the Camen Islands - but for the powerful rich backers of the Conservative Party, owners of the right wing media and even MPs themselves, this will cost them dearly. And THAT is why Boris wants us to leave by 31 October, to avoid the U.K. having to adhere to that legislation.
All in all it is an absolutely shower of shit. Bollocks to Brexit.

Are you asking this as a European or what? Every country and union have their problems. If you want to fix something globally, how about hearing out the United Nations and trying to fix climate change, poverty, war, and all the other crap that first world countries are so effectively shielded themselves against with.

I think some of it has to do with that the media just focuses on people who live in the 'bubble' of london. If you spoke to people from some of the poorest towns in the uk, like I am, you would get a different side of the story

I'm half Cypriot and half Austrian and lived for many years in both countries. For Cyprus, the EU is in my opinion a must. The country is chaotic, nearly went bankrupt and only survived after the EU bailed us out. I also saw the benefits in many everyday situations. For example: I'm a clinical psychologist. Pre-EU any person with some sort of degree (usually just a bachelor's or some psychology-based certiricate) called themselves a psychologist and practiced privately, lacking the necessary training to perform this highly delicate job. Post-EU there are strict guidelines as to who can practice.  Other examples: sreets were fixed, buildings had to get elevators and access for the disabled etc., basically the island was cleaned up to follow EU standards. I could write pages filled with examples, but you get the picture. There's still a lot to be done, but I believe that without the EU it simply wouldn't.
I only moved to Austria post-EU, so I cannot compare before and after, but things seem to be running very smoothly here, so why change something that works?
I'm following the developments in the U.K.... in my opinion it was a mistake to leave and it's clear that there has been nothing but chaos since the original Brexit vote, but I'm open to be proven wrong. We'll have to wait some years to see the actual results.
