Nipple shield question

About 2 days into breastfeeding I had such sore nipples and they were starting to get blood blisters so I decided to try a nipple shield to let them heal. She’s 4 weeks old now and I’m still using the nipple shield. I try to get her to latch but I just can’t get her to get a deep latch and my nipples come out white and pinched no matter what.

So my question is, is it okay to keep using the nipple shield and have any of you moms ever used it for long periods of time?! My midwife says it can affect my supply but it hasn’t seemed to up to this point.
