Pregnant on birth control?

Is it possible to get pregnant on birth control? I take the pill on time every single day. Last week I noticed my period was a few days late so I gave it a little more time and nothing. So i took a test yesterday and it looked like a faint positive. The second line was light but it was definitely there. How is this happening? I can’t have a baby right now nor do I want to have a baby right now. I made a doctors appointment and I’m just extremely nervous/scared. Isn’t the pill supposed to be 98% effective? What!!

UPDATE: yeah so I’m pregnant and I’m considering all the options but I’m just confused and so stressed. Definitely leaning towards adoption though.

You can definitely get pregnant on birth control. Small percentage, but it’s there. When taken correctly (same time daily) without missing a dose it’s 98% effective.  I’ve taken B/C for 12 years before recently stopping, didn’t use any back up protection and never gotten pregnant.

Even when taken perfectly, there is a failure rate to all forms of birth control. If the pill is 98-99% effective, that means 1-2 out of every 100 women using it perfectly will get pregnant on it. 
This is why it’s so important to double up on your protection if having a baby isn’t something you want right now - use condoms with your birth control. 
So short answer, yes, you can absolutely get pregnant while on ANY birth control method.
