Is this common?

I had my beta Friday and my numbers came back very low (9.8) I go back tomorrow morning to see if they’ve changed at all but my doctor seemed to think they would only go down and this was a chemical pregnancy. I have been testing at home out of curiously and they seem to be getting darker. Does that happen? Could this be a positive thing or is it most likely my blood work will still go down like the doctor thought? I’m so confused and hoping for the best! The last 2 were taken tonight.
