Is archeology disturbing the peace of the dead ("grave robbing") and is it wrong?

It really depends on how it’s done. The wishes of living descendants should always come first, but preserving our world heritage can certainly be done ethically. 
I seriously mixed thoughts about human remains on display.

The way I see it, whilst it might be deemed unethical and disrespectful... If it weren't for archeologists and their research we wouldn't have the majority of facts and evidence from history that make profits from their finds and without them we wouldn't know the things we do about the way of life in different eras, how people lived and died and even dinosaurs

I have a masters of archaeology. Technically it is grave robbing no matter how old the digsite is if remains are found that remains are treated with the utmost respect and dignity during the process. Most archaeologists will never run into human remains ever in the entirety of their career. I do truly believe though that is important to know where we came from and our customs and our understanding of ourselves to know what came before.

It can be done ethically well, and it has a purpose. 
What i really don't appreciate is mummy's on display in museum's. 
Tourists at the natural history museum taking pictures of dead people is gross.

Archaeology is a whole field of study. Some of it is unethical and some of it isn’t. I believe they now have ethics they follow. I would have to know of a certain circumstance to say if I agree with it or not.

It is definitely ‘grave robbing’, but it can and always should be done in a ethnic/respectful way. It should only be done if there is some sort of benefit for the person buried or for society.
But the bigger problem is when the bodies are displayed. No matter how long someone has been dead for, it is disrespectful and wrong. The dead should always be respected.

Honestly archeology is the least of your concerns. When people settle and build and decide “here’s where a suburb is going to be” and well shit, it happened to be on an Indian burial ground... instead of doing what a group of architects would do with the area it was literally just lumped into a pile. If anyone wants to cite this on me go visit Toronto its in Scarborough called “indian mound” 😞

I think this.
Its not wrong. Do with my grave as you wish. I wont need my bones.
However.
Some people for religious, spiritual or other reasons would care. And those wishes should be respected at leas as long as their family (who reasonably knows what kind of person you were) lives.
Probably a 100 years or so. Maybe stretch it to 500 just to make sure.
And after that. Idk do with the graves as you wish. No one out there really cares about those graves.
Overall. Be respectfull though
Dont take a wee on thr graves. Dig m up for research or something.

I don’t have a problem with digging up dead bodies that have been there for a long time. As long as there isn’t a family that you’ll be upsetting, why does it really matter? They’re dead, I’m sure they don’t care lol.
