Cord issues?

Got our 20 week scan results yesterday (currently 21 weeks) and we found out that I possibly have either marginal or velamentous cord insertion but they aren’t sure which one so they’re sending us to a fetal specialist to have more scans but not for another month or so. Baby is growing good so far and is weighing a little above the normal range. I’m so nervous and just not sure what to think at this point and a month just seems so long before we can get answers. Anyone dealt with this have advice or thoughts?!

I was told the same thing at my anatomy scan with my first! I had to have 3 more growth scans, where they confirmed it was marginal at each one. My daughter measured right on track at every growth scan. I ended up being induced (high bp unrelated to the cord) and gave birth at 39 weeks exactly. As soon as the dr looked at the cord and placenta, she said "this is velamentous!" and was clearly upset that nobody caught it. She showed me too. We were fortunate that things worked out the way they did for us, because velamentous is a lot more serious than marginal. Try not to stress over it until your next scan (I know, much easier said than done) but there is nothing you would be able to do about it either way. Sending you all the positive wishes!!!

So first off I would try not to stress about it too much. Did they say that the baby was measuring on time or late? I just had an appointment today and they said I have marginal but as long as the baby is growing it’s nothing to really worry about. I also have a check back in a month. The way it was described to me is that things are constantly changing with the position of your placenta and cord so it could resolve itself but it also could develop into worse insertion. It was also described to me that there’s nothing they can really do at this point but monitor it. I don’t think it becomes something they start to really stress about unless the baby isn’t growing as it should be. Just whatever you do don’t Google things because that will just freak you out.
