Do you tip cash or card

Question

So I personally like tipping cash because restaurants tax the tip. Also I like handing them their tip so no one steals it. Not saying their coworkers will but you never know. So I wait until they are available and I’ll call them over to hand them their tip as I say thanks for everything then I leave. My boyfriend finds it weird that I wait for them to be free to hand them their tip but it’s how I am. My parents didn’t teach me that I just did it on my own to just personally hand it to them. 
Other question is it weird to wait for the waiter or waitress to be free to hand them their cash tip or should I just leave it on the table?

I very rarely carry cash, let alone party for meals with cash so most of the time it's card.

They tax the tip whether it's cash or card. I always had to report my daily tip earnings so they could inform payroll to tax it. We use card because we never have cash

As a former waitress, having someone hand you a tip instead of leaving it on the table is great. In a busy restaurant, cash tips can go “missing”. As far as cash or credit, cash is always best if you have it... but any tip is better than none!

I rarely carry cash. 
But as a server, I got the amount that someone left on a card. I got paid my hourly rate, then my slip at the end of the night said how much I owed to the restaurant then I kept the rest (tipped the bar and bus person too). If I was busy, I would get flustered if I was running around and someone stopped to hand me money. I would be super awkward and not effectively thank them. 
As a patron, I only hand the server cash if it’s a large amount that shouldn’t be left on the table (like couple hundred dollar tab with cash).

The restaurant doesn’t tax, the government does & you should be claiming your tips at the end of the night. 
& as a previous server - it’s a little weird. I never went out of my way to avoid a table, but if they linger for too long after paying the tab I typically wouldn’t fo back because once you’re cashed out - I would like that table for another paying customer. 
With that said, I worked at a tight knit place & no one would have stolen from one another. So I guess it depends on the place you go?

That’s a good idea. When I was a server I had my tips stollen from my table many times by my co-workers. Also, once I put my book down with cash in it for a second went back to pick it up and a co-worker stole it. I ended up making 16 dollars that night because of that. Never put my book down again.
