Membrane sweep?

Hey ladies sim going in for my 38 week appointment today. I've been reading about membranes sweeps to try to kick start labor and I want to ask my doctor about doing one on me. Before I ask I wanted to be sure that I'm even eligible for one. I have gestational diabetes but its controlled and baby is healthy. I'm 4.5cm dilated and 70% effaced as of about 3 weeks ago. Would this qualify me for a sweep or am I too far?

Some won't do them until you are full term at 39+ weeks,  but many will do them sooner,  do it definitely doesn't hurt to ask!

I think you would be a good candidate. I can't speak on the GD but my doctor starts them at 38 weeks if you want. I had my first last week at 39 weeks and was only 1 cm. Didn't really do anything for me but I'll have another today at my 40 week appt. Hopefully it will send you into labor! Good luck!

Most definitely sounds like you are the perfect person to get a sweep done,  however some doctors has their own time frame as to when they would perform a sweep for you. When I had my sweep done with my daughter I was told my doc office can do it from 39 weeks on as long as I am dilated enough that the doctors finger can reach in and sweep the membrane comfortably. I was only “1-2cm” the night I had it done had my daughter the next afternoon.
