Child support

Hello ladies. this is my first time doing the process. Long story short I put my ex on child support, we are done with all the paperwork to the point that now he was sent a letter telling him to send his paycheck stub back so they can start payments. Instead of him doing that, he decided to request a state hearing. My question is, what will even happen at his hearing? I understand he has rights and all that but ....Won’t he still end up being on child support and having to pay regardless? What’s the point of his hearing?
