Do acrylics weaken your nails over time?

I’ve never gotten acrylics before but I want to. I’m just wondering if they eventually weaken your nails, like do you need to take a break from getting them every once in awhile? When I get gel polish I eventually have to take long breaks and let my nails recover because it thins them out, is it the same for acrylics?

Yes acrylics weaken your nails like crazy it’s always good to take a break from them .

If they are properly done (that means the nail is prepped and filled properly over time), maintained and removed properly (not ripping that shit off with floss or your teeth). Then your nails can stay healthy and strong. I’m a licensed nail technician. I see all these “chop shops” ruin nails by removing acrylic improperly and prepping the nail bed wrong. It’s all these horror stories that ruin it for the techs/artists who actually care about the health of the natural nail.

I think they can. Gels seem to always rip off a layer of nails no matter how they're removed so I dont use them. I can safely remove my acrylics so they completely release without pulling on the nail. Acetone can also weaken the nail because it dries it out so it can seem thinner and brittle
