I’ve been with my boyfriend of and on for 9 1/2 years. Now we’ve have some bad time and some great. Things I’ve experienced in this relationship I should have been left but I didn’t. We were engaged once but something happened and that was over. Fast forward..... I cook, clean etc etc. I’m a great woman to him. Am I wasting my time? He say I’ll get a ring “once I act right” tf is that??  
Update: I’m sorry I didn’t include this part. Because I felt ashamed. The engagement was called off because he cheated on me and produced a child. The “if you act right” is because I’m basically broken and paranoid ever since the situation of him having a child on me. He partially blames me for him cheating etc etc.

I'm guessing that if you guys have had issues that you 'should of left' because of, you've already been engaged and broken it, it's been nearly a decade, and he's under the illusion you need to 'act right' in order to get married, then NO, you likely won't ever get a ring. I’m sorry but getting engaged isn’t some sort of reward. What the fuck does “if you act right” even mean? Getting engaged is two people who WANT to spent the rest of their life with someone, committed, building a family unit. I think you wasted enough time. Almost 10 years is a long time. I’ve been with my bf for almost 4 years. I’ve been married before and he hasn’t. Not even engaged. He’s 35 years old. So that basically tells me he 1) has commitment issues or 2) he’s not ready. But I have talked to him about it before and I’ll say “I guess I’ll never get one” which I say it in a joking manner. He always says back “not with that attitude” so I’m in the same boat, kindaaa. I hate when he says that, bc a ring is about commitment and about loving someone, not a reward. My friend with with a guy for 8 years, he helped raise her kid and about 4 years in the relationship I met her. When I asked if they had considered getting married since he is in the Army she told him he told her he won’t married her until she paid off her medical bills(about $2500). I just looked at her and blurted out well that’s a crap excuse. Fast forward to now the are no longer together because he didn’t really want to be with her she was just familiar. I’m not saying you shouldn’t hold your breathe but he is the one who needs to act right and if he wants to marry you he would.

Listen this sounds awful and I wouldn’t wait around. I was with my ex for 10 1/2 years!!! We had two children and two miscarriages, a dog a cat, bought a house and he STILL didn’t want to get married.  He proposed to me on Christmas Eve of 2009 and  it was awkward and we ended up selling the engagement ring because we needed money 6 months later and he took the wedding band back a month after proposing. You’re partner cheated on you and had a child outside of your relationship!! If I were you I would leave him. You deserve more and he is acting like you’re some kind of puppet or child “until you act right”?! No way.
