Five hour labor birth story. Baby #2
I’ve been on this app since 2016 and my all time favorite group is this birth story one! So here goes mine for my second birth!
I was told from early on that my OB was thinking a 39 week induction would be good for this birth if I made it that far. My first I went to 41 weeks, was induced, labored for 19 hours, pushing for 4.5 hours of that...and had a successful vaginal delivery. My daughter was only 8lbs and my OB feared my body would have a tough time delivering a bigger baby. Well fast forward and of course I made it to 39 weeks and with a 2 year old in mind, we decided on Friday night October 18th I’d go in to start induction. 5pm we check in at the hospital and have cervidil placed at 7:30pm. I was already 4cm dilated and 50% effaced. I had a LEEP procedure last year and was warned my cervix would likely stall and quickly progress, giving me a lot of pain. At 9pm I’m given a sleeping pill with the mindset I’d have a little progression come morning. I awake at 1am with full blown contractions every 10 minutes! I was sweating profusely and requested to walk the halls. I knew I wanted an epidural but I felt bad waking the guy up since its a small hospital and he was on call. Started walking the halls and at 2am, I hopped in the shower for some relief. The nurse then checks me and I’m still 4-5cm and maybe 80% effaced now. So we move to the birthing suite and I get in the tub. By this point it’s 3:30am and I decide to have the nurse call the epidural guy. I was informed he was 45 mins out. I thought ‘okay no big deal, I can do this!’ Come 4am I’m DYING. Walking around the room, laboring in different positions. I’m begging and praying for the guy to get here. Well he finally does and I get the epidural at 4:45am. SWEET RELIEF. I think to myself, okay I’ll nap and wake up and hopefully be ready to push. The nurse checks me and goes, she’s nearly complete! Almost 10cm! And I had no bloody show, no water break...nothing! They quickly rush at this point to call the doctor. Who was at home sleeping and was planning on coming at 7am to see me again. My babies heart rate starts dropping and they are flipping me every which way to get it up and it finally does about 5am. My doctor gets here and he says that baby needs to lower himself still or I could try pushing him with my waters still intact. I make the decision to have him break it and soon as that happens. My epidural quits working. I feel like I have to poo and the baby drops. It’s now 6am and I start practice pushing. But OMG I could feel everything so there wasn’t any practicing. I pushed 5 times and my son was born at 6:09am 10/19! & I had no tearing. For a hell of a first birth my second was as good as it gets. Here is my son Lane Russel. Born 39+2 at 8.8lbs and 19in.
