Father in law

So me and my hubby just got married September 13th(Friday the 13th) we had invited 30 people, most of which were my family because his family isn't great and I'll get into that in just a second. So we invited his mother, stepfather, sister, father, and stepmother, as well as one of his cousins. We had a non traditional wedding and it was beautiful, minimalistic, outdoors, and just amazing.

It was a very small (less than 30 people) ceremony and we served food after for all those that attended. Well his father claims because I am pagan and the wedding was pagan based he could not attend because it goes against his religion and he can not partake in a pagan ceremony.

Ok first of all we were asking him to come and sit and support his sons journey through life not sacrifice a pig and dance around a fire naked under the full moon. Literally just come, watch, eat, have some cake, and go home. But no he has such a big problem with it because I'm pagan, such a big problem that he texts my husband literally 3 hours before our wedding. Now this is where it gets good because here we go-

This man texts my husband saying something along the lines of "you are young come hide away here and think about this my son. You can always reschedule, just think about this. You are so young and are going too fast, I'm doing this because I live you and I want you to make the right choices in life. I wish someone would have stopped me from marrying ____ when I was 19."

Thankfully my hubby didn't have his phone on him through our wedding otherwise he would have went off on his father but before we got married he was going on and on about how we are wrong and we HAVE to have his in our marriage or it won't work. This man beat and cheated on my hubby's mother who is a sweet woman she just doesn't get boundaries. This man has had 4 wives and has the guts to tell us what we are doing is wrong. We have completely cut ties with this man due to what he said the day of our wedding but this is something that has been bothering me a lot and I wanted see what all you lovely ladies had to say about this.
