Play area on hardwood floor?

Question

What can I use on our hardwood floor as baby learns to sit, stand, and crawl?  Whether that's a foam play mat or something else? Criteria:
1 something to protect her from bonks on the head when she falls over
2 cleanable/washable bc she is still spitting up
3 not slippery so as to cause falls for adults or baby. Right now we have a big quilt on the floor, but it's quite slippery and is just asking for an accident. 
Specific product remediations welcome. I feel like I've spent 100 hours reading reviews for foam play mats. If a foam mat is the answer, someone just tell me which one to buy, for crying out loud! Lol

NOT foam tiles. Anything but. Once they learn they can take them apart, that's all they'll do and they'll be in pieces and all over your house and they won't play because they'll be too interested in taking the tiles apart. It's basically made of yoga mat material, for that you can buy a couple of yoga mats and put them side by side. But if you want a larger area, I'd do a big area rug.

We had this and liked it. Big pieces so quick for adults to clean up but our son never tried to pick them apart. You could also just get a cushy rug

I have foam tiles and they’ve been great! I purchased mine second hand so I’m not sure the brand. They’re not kid specific but are just a solid gray color and each tile is about 2 feet by 2 feet square. Sometimes my son will pull up the edge piece that makes it straight instead of “puzzley” on the edge, but he’s never pulled apart the big pieces. He’s 10 months now. I still like having it as a spot to play with him on, but he definitely crawls everywhere on our tile floor now, so keep in mind it will be most effective if you also get a fence/playpen to contain them. Otherwise just be aware that whatever you buy will probably be of most use before baby can crawl.

I just took the cover from my bed and put that down, we’d do everything there eat lunch, nap was all done on the floor til she got used to it and was crawling in no time

I would say the foam tiles; you could always do some sort of adhesive on the floor side to keep them down (double-sided tape, velcro command strips, etc.) If you're worried about the little one pulling them up once they learn they come apart. They're pretty easy to clean; i used Clorox wipes when i had them and used a bleach/water mix when i really wanted to ensure they got cleaned. But there's also a lot more baby friendly cleaners out now than there was when my son was an infant. 
There's also padded baby leggings (super cute too lol) but those wont protect baby's head, obviously. Lol

We have a $20 rug from home Depot, just spot clean as needed and we also have a dual sided large foam mat that we got at Aldi. I've seen them at TjMaxx and another store that I can't remember though
