Is it weird?

Is it odd that when i take my 18 month old i usually use a stroller or cart. We dont have her walk in the stores. Im worried she will run off.. she doesnt really follow directions yet. She wont hold our hands or walk along side us. 
Is this something she should be doing? When do they start following directions better?

My 19 month old is the same way. He can walk and stuff on his own but he likes to run off lol. Maybe they'll start listening more at 2 years old

Mine is the same way and he’s 19 months. He loves to walk but in the stores or anywhere in public he would just run off anywhere he wanted. He is also not the best at staying by me and holding hands. I’m hoping this will get better for us soon too!! But you’re not the only one so I’m thinking it’s normal for this age!!

Same girl. She understands but likes to run around so much that she doesn’t listen lol. My husband and I got her a backpack that has a leash you can attach so she can carry her toys and still have freedom without worrying that she will run off.

I usually hold my son's hand. He is pretty good at staying by my side. I only use the stroller if I know it's a long trip and the shopping cart if I know I need a lot of things. It certainly takes twice as long getting things done since I walk at his pace, but he enjoys his independence and observing things at his level.

Is it weird?
