HSG procedure

Hey y’all!

I had my hsg today and i felt like when i went online to read about people’s experiences etc. they were all pretty much horrific. So i was hoping to give someone or anyone out there some relief in knowing that it really isn’t that bad. I know everyone’s bodies are different.. but let me give you some back story and explain how it went for me. (I could have used this before i went in for mine)

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 7 months now with 0 luck. I have a history of chlamydia due to an ex cheating on me and all symptoms were pointing to PID. I had every symptom in the book of when i got a positive chlamydia test years ago and have been afraid for years that it affected my fertility. (I did get it treated as soon as i started noticing the symptoms) My body was also resistant to the first round of antibiotics they gave me and the infection actually went dormant then came back about 3 weeks later with the same symptoms. So my RE insisted on an HSG. I did research after research on line reading that if you have symptoms then it’s most likely already spread up into your reproductive organs. NOT TRUE. Remember again, everyone’s body is different in the way it fights off infection.

I went into my HSG this morning terrified after reading for years about how I was definitely infertile. Here’s how mine went:

They have you sit up on a table with an X-ray machine. (This was probably the most uncomfortable part) Then the speculum was inserted, my cervix was cleaned, and then in went the catheter. This was slightly uncomfortable but mostly just felt like pressure and period cramping. Then the dye was inserted. I didn’t even know my RE was inserting the dye! After about 60 seconds i hear a “we are all done, your tubes are clear and perfectly fine”

I actually asked “wait that’s it. With tears of joy in my eyes”

I have a bit of cramping tonight which is normal and some spotting which is also normal.

They did prescribe me doxycycline for the day before the hsg, day of and day after. I also took 800mg of ibuprofen and 5mg of Valium that was prescribed about 45min prior to the procedure. Not sure if it helped or not, but it was worth a try!

Im hoping this will help someone out there who has the same anxieties or fears that I did.

Just remember You are so much stronger than you think and there’s a reason women have the ability to grow an entire human inside of them!

Good luck to anyone having this procedure in the near future! :)

baby dust to you all!
