Early labor

Alexis

I'm 37 weeks and 6 days right now. I went to the hospital a couple days ago because I was having minute long contractions every 4-6 minutes for over an hour. I went to the L&D triage where they monitored me and then checked me. I was 3 cm dilated so they took off the monitors and I walked through the halls with my fiancé for about half an hour. Then they checked me again and I was at about 4 1/2 cm and they were trying to decide whether to admit me or not. After being there in triage for about four hours they decided that it would be a good idea to admit me and we would watch to see what would happen. They said that since I'm only 37 weeks that they couldn't legally give me pitocin or have my labor augmented if it stalled. The L&D ward was pretty busy while I was there so they just hooked me up to the monitors again and pretty much had me sit in the bed. My nurse said that she would get the portable monitor so I could get up and move around to get things going but the portable monitor didn't have batteries so she said she'd have to wait for her manager to get there in about half an hour to get her batteries. No biggie so I waited. And waited and waited. I had my family members asking her for the batteries and I asked her myself every time she came in when she'd be able to get the batteries. After six more hours of waiting around and whatnot my labor had basically stopped. It just slowed down until there was nothing happening. In the six hours that I was actually in a delivery room, I could only get up for about 30 minutes and that was towards the end after everything stopped. I was pretty frustrated when I was sent home after being there for ten hours and thinking that I would finally see and hold my baby. I cried the whole way back home. I'm so ready to have this baby and the sitting around waiting for something to happen is driving me nuts. Any suggestions for getting things going again? I've tried sex, bouncing on my birthing ball, squatting, pineapple, spicy food and chocolate.
