At what age is it appropriate to take a child to a funeral?

I think any age is fine personally. Death is the one thing none of us escape and the great equalizer that all living things in this world experience. To “shelter” them is in my opinion wrong. Teach them as soon as possible how to properly cope and talk about feelings and that when someone passes you remember the good times and celebrate the life they had. Teach them with The Lion King and the great circle of life. Kind of morbid by my opinion. But every parent does what they feel is best and by no means am I saying that this is what everyone should do but it’s what I would do. The sooner they learn and understand the more adjusted they will be and better able to cope.

Any age as long as you are respectful of the other mourners. If your child is fussy or loud, step out of the service. We brought our 14 month old son to my grandmother’s funeral.. Hell, he was even with me when I went to the nursing home after she passed and she was still in her bed with family gathered. My husband was out of town and all my family was there. Our little boy was the only person who could make my grandpa smile those days.

I have been to a funeral around 6-7 I don’t recall what a funeral was but I remember lots of people crying and throwing a rose into the casket.
We were kept away from the body and waited outside in the lobby. It wasn’t bad but unforgettable.

I’ve always felt weird bringing babies around the dead, I’m not even superstitious but it just made me uncomfortable. I’d say a good age would be when they can sit quietly for a long time. It would help if they where old enough to understand death too, a funeral might be scary if they didn’t fully grasp the concept

My mom passed when my daughter was 1 and my sons were 4/5. I wouldn’t have taken them to any funeral but becuz of who it was, they came 💜
