CROUP *long story*

The last 48 hours have been rough. My son Cooper had croup when I thought it was a cold (was treating myself). I’m a first time mom so I had no idea what could have happened or what to do. I’ve never heard of croup until now. When he got bad Tuesday it was the middle of the night and I didn’t trust our urgent care in our small town. Took him into the pediatricians office yesterday morning at 8:50 am (I was letting him sleep) and the doctor said it could be rsv or croup or both. His breathing was terrifying. The night before I slept on the ground in his room terrified he would stop breathing because of how much he was coughing. Since the pediatrician didn’t have the proper treatment she sent us over to the emergency room in the hospital across the street at 9:30. They confirmed it was croup and began treatment. We were in a small room for over 3 hours and he was in such great spirits but his breathing didn’t get better so they had to do a second treatment. At our hospital it is mandatory that if a second treatment is given baby has to stay the night to be monitored. TERRIFYING. They didn’t get us a room for another two hours. Little man was such a trooper. We finally got to our room at 2:30 pm but he refused to sleep because the steroids hyped him up. Which then he started getting fussy. He was awake almost all night and all day. Finally fell asleep at 6:30 pm. He was up every 2 hours until morning. We finally got home at 10 am! Cooper is doing amazing! We just need rest.

Mamas please be careful! I had no idea it was this bad and was going to go to these lengths.

Please don’t give me grief for not taking him in sooner. My mom guilt for being naive is already sitting with me.
