Update

Shannon

Hello ladies hope everyones pregnancy’s are going great. I just wanted to update you all on my journey so far. We welcomed our identical twin girls into the world a little earlier than expected (33weeks4days)

My day started just like any other except for the back pain I’d been experiencing since the day before which I assumed was from carrying two almost 5lb babies around. I made it through the day Saturday and was sitting down throwing a ball for my dogs before bedtime. as I went to get up It felt like a water balloon popped and I felt a huge gush of water. Woke up the husband and rushed to the hospital. Turns out my water did break but I wasn’t dilated. So they admitted me at 10 pm Saturday night and Originally they were going to keep me from going into labor until Thursday (Halloween) to give more time for the babies to develop and the steroid shots to kick in and help develop their lungs. Things didn’t go as planned my blood pressure started to go up and I was diagnosed with preeclampsia so they moved induction up to 1 am Sunday morning. Then they got my bloodwork back and saw my liver enzymes were off which means my liver wasn’t functioning correctly. After speaking to my high risk dr and confirming the babies have been Consistently measuring 2 weeks ahead (turns out they were exactly right on the ultrasound measurements) They thought it be best to induce right away. All this happening within an hour.

After about 30 some hours of labor, baby A (Madalynn) was born at 9:12 on Monday October 28th and baby b (Malana) who was giving us a harder time she had to be flipped into position she was something they call sunny side up. She finally came out almost an hour later right at 10:00am. When they pulled her out she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck 3 times! She came out lifeless and not breathing. It was the scariest moment of my life but they got her breathing right away and she let out the sweetest little moan letting us know she was ok. They worked on both babies and once stable I was able to see them for only a second before they were whisked away to the NICU. Madalynn was 5.1 lbs and Malana was 4.11 lbs. They will be in the NICU for about two weeks but they’re safe and healthy and completely perfect.
