Should I get an IUD?

So I’m 20, I’ve been sexually actively since I was 16, and I’m not on birth control. I’ve never been on birth control because I’ve always been too scared to go to the gyno.
But now I’m 20, I’m in college, and I’m ready to live a little. I wanna meet new people and maybe even have casual sex. 
I’m leaning more towards an IUD. I definitely cannot take a pill everyday because I’ll forget. I’ve thought about the arm implant but it sounds terrifying. 
Getting an IUD sounds even scarier, but once it’s in you won’t notice. You won’t bruise like nexplanon would.

I know ur more specifically asking about an IUD, but I wanted to give a little insight to the arm implant as well... The arm implant isn’t as terrifying as u may be thinking. Yes, initially u will likely bruise after insertion (and removal), however, bruising isn’t permanent. It typically goes away within a few days to a week. Pain wise is about the same, 2 week at the most. And, after the area heals, the implant isn’t noticeable in ur arm at all, unless u point it out. I’m been using the arm implant for almost 5 years, currently on my second implant, and overall I love it! 
Now, as far as IUDs, I’ve personally never had one but they can be great options as well. 
Both the implant & IUDs are most effective methods available outside of abstinence, at 99.9% & 99.8% effective.

Hard pass. Any hormonal birth control will ruin your body. I’d look into natural family planning and choose which one you feel is best for you

I love my mirena iud. I got it because its fda approved to treat heavy periods. It stopped my periods after 4 months! Which i love. Getting it in the entire appt from walking in to out was 10 mins. It felt like intense cramps. Those went away after she took out all the tools. I had bad cramps like stop and breathe for 2 weeks as my only side effect. Those went away. We dont use condoms or pull out and ove never gotten pregnant. I do monthly string checks. Ive used antibiotics and st johns wort oil which effect other hormonal methods but not the iud. I love it! Ive had it about a year and a half now. Wish i had gotten it sooner. I also dont have kids.
