Do you believe in the death penalty

My state doesn’t have the death penalty and I was just wondering what others thought about it

In a way yes, I think all pedophiles/rapists should get the death penalty. But you also have to think of all the false accusations/false identifications. There’s not many, but there is still some, and it would be wrong to have someone put to death for something they didn’t do. But they also usually sit in prison for YEARS before they’re finally put to death. I’d just say, every person who’s %100 for sure done their crime and the crime is something horrible, then yes, death penalty for sure.

No, I don't. Personally I think they should rot in jail. Death can be a quick and easy escape instead of suffering alone in a cell.

Yes 100% but only in cases where they can prove without a doubt that they did the crime. I believe that once you have proven yourself completely worthless to the world and that the only thing your existence will ever bring is misery and suffering then you've lost your right to be here anymore. Maybe they'd think twice about doing some of the things they do if they knew something was actually going to happen to them and not just be thrown in a cell to be kept up for the rest of their lives.

I believe in killing people who will never be safe in society. But I don't agree with the current death penalty, and dont think it should cost more than life in prison.

Absolutely. There’s a woman in my town who was just found guilty of killing her 10 month old child & lying about it, if anyone deserves the chair it’s people like her. Murderers are disgusting.

Beyond reasonable doubt is enough to convict, but is it enough of a threshold for the death penalty?
I think it would have to be "proven beyond any doubt whatsoever". Because once they're dead, you can't appeal. You can't do anything else and the system prevents convicts from executing all of their rights.
Sorry to get all legal, but I'm a third year law student.
Also, what about the purpose of prison?
Is the purpose to rehabilitate, or to punish?
Death is 100% punishment. No rehabilitation.
But in NZ where I live, we have a strong focus on rehabilitation. We reintroduce people into society. Yes, that includes murderers and rapists. Yes that can be a concern. But if we keep people in for punishment, we overpopulate our prisons and rob taxpayer money to pay for jails.
Rehabilitation allows a minimum cost to ratepayers, and is even a good thing, when someone re enters society, as a functioning member.
