Magical Homebirth

R

Friday November 8th was my last day of work. I punched out around 6:30p. Called my boss. We talked. Made jokes that my son would wait until I punched out to be born. I ordered pizza. My family came over to eat. My 3 year old was playing really rough with my 1 year old niece and wouldn’t listen to me. Everyone left. I moved my couches looking for my dads hat for like 45 mins. (I found It lol) Then I had a complete meltdown that our house was a mess (there were toys in the living room) and I didn’t even want the backsplash my husband had been working on for days. Around 10:15 I got in the shower and let my husband deal with my 3 year old who still did not want to take a bath. I got into bed. My 3 year old fell asleep (we lost the bath battle)

10:42p contraction, I flipped sides. I had prodromal labor all week but if I moved or laid down the contractions would stop.

10:50p second one hit. I got on all fours.

10:55p -11:22p were #3-9 I got up to pee. Told my husband to call our midwife. She said she’s on her way but time them for another 20 minutes to see what happens.

11:45p I got into my bath tub to try to relax and see if labor would slow down or stop as I still wasn’t convinced It was the real thing since It was progressing so quickly

I had two contractions in the tub. Got out. Told my husband I don’t want to do this let’s go to the hospital and have a c section 😂

At 12:05am my mom texted asking if she should come. I said if you want, but no passing out (she was passing out while my first son was born)

At 12:07am contraction 23 hit. 3 mins and 23 seconds long. I told my husband to call our midwife. I was on all fours kind of squatting next to the tub and told him I felt like the baby was coming out. He got her on the phone. And she was minutes away. I had two contractions on the phone with her. Then she came running into the bathroom. Told my husband to grab the towels. The next contraction hit. She called for my husband. His head was out. She told me to reach down and feel my baby. Then the next contraction hit, out came his body and I scooped him up in shock.

Lochlan Enver was born at 12:19am on 11.9.19 after an hour and 37 minutes of labor. At home, into my arms in our bathroom. I didn’t push him out. I worked with my body through contractions and let them do what they needed to. I got into a position my body told me to get into. When his head came out I was shocked. But on the next contraction I tried to slow It down because I didn’t want to tear. I experienced fetal ejection as I did with my first but luckily this time no tearing. Lochlan and I snuggled up on my couch and he nursed while attaches to his placenta until It was done pulsing. My midwife moved us into our bedroom where my son was still passed out (he planned on catching his brother in the birthing pool 😂) and he woke up in the morning to his new baby brother and was so excited.

My first birth was in a hospital. I experienced precipitous labor (5 hours), fighting my contractions, fear, my baby being held inside of me while fetal ejection was happening, a lot of neglect, tearing, bleeding, and psychological trauma associated with birth that lead me to seek therapy during my pregnancy. My homebirth has been the most magical and empowering experience. I couldn’t have asked for a better birth. For anyone considering It... do It!
