Is this a legit thing

Since Disney Plus has come out, I’ve been kinda nostalgic and I started to remember this commercial growing up from Rise Above and drug usage. I know they used to show a flattened girl and would use scare tactics for cannabis and all that... but one thing I’ve always wondered is, if someone’s friend is overdosing do some people really drop them off in the Butt fuck of nowhere or is that tv exaggeration? Cause wouldn’t those friends be tracked down and arrested for ditching.
