Does anyone know how is green card lottery works?

Question

My friend won a green card lottery of USA and recently she moved with her husband to LA!! 
But she has difficulty to find job and travel outside. 
I wanted to apply this year but she said is not worth it and doesn’t explain me properly.
Does anyone know how does it work?? Will I have work permit??? Can I travel around and use NHS??? Or go to uni !???

I came to the US with Lottery. I got my green card as soon as i entered the united state. You are able to work, school and travel anywhere you want because you are here legally.

I have never even heard of the green card lottery? Are you sure it’s a real thing? I could just be clueless though

From what I read, it’s a real thing and it’s also closed at this time. They stopped the entries on Nov 5th of this year. 
From what I read, it’s a permanent resident card so you could be eligible for employment but you’re not eligible for any kind of government assistance ( other than emergency services) until you’ve been a permanent resident for 5+ years. 
Just do some research on permanent residency in the US and it should give you a list of things you are allowed to do with it.

the dv program (green card lottery) only wins you the CHANCE to apply for a green card. it doesn't actually mean you immediately get a greet card. you'll need to meet the country eligibility as well as education/work experience requirements. having severe medical disabilities may hurt your chances though. 
once you get approved for a green card and receive one, it works like a regular green card. 
what do you mean travel around with nhs? do you mean carry your insurance? no. you'll need to get an insurance policy in the us. 
you can go to uni. you should be eligible for grants and in-state tuition for state schools but it depends (ex. in california, they require you to be a resident for ~3 years before qualifying for certain education related things). if you go to a private university you won't get any special advantage.

Well, living in the US is hard. People could hardly pay bills with 1 job and money is always tight. I found it hard to find jobs too, easier when you have connections. So travelling would be hard since money would be a problem. But it's not as bad as it seems and if you can get a green card lottery then why not
