Roasting a turkey..

What kind of pan do you use to roast your turkey? I'm planning to roast a turkey for Thanksgiving and I don't really have a roasting pan. What can in use as a substitute? Also, does the turkey need to be off the bottom of the pan? This is my first time roasting one.
