Is it honestly bad or not the best to give formula to my baby who’s just born?

I gave birth a couple of hours ago. I tried to breast feed but I barely produced milk yet. I tried it two times or three. I even tried to breast pump and nothing was even coming out. So I had to feed my baby something. I gave him formula. He had half of the bottle. The right amount that he needed. I feel frustrated and super sad I couldn’t breast feed or pump for him. I will not give up that’s for sure. But is it bad meanwhile to give bottle if he doesn’t latch on or if I don’t produce milk?

It takes a few days (anywhere from 2-5 is normal) for your milk to come in. You produce colostrum for those first few days.  This is normal!  It’s also normal to not get anything when you pump those first few days because the volume of what you are producing is fairly small. Generally ladies who store colostrum use small syringes instead of bottles.  Baby’s tummy is so small at the start - they barely need anything.  The best thing to do is to get baby to latch on and nurse as much as possible to help bring your milk in. Skin to skin helps as well.  Is it bad to give formula - no. Unless baby is dehydrated (make sure you are keep track of wet and dirty diapers for those first few days - as long as that number is on track baby is getting enough to eat), it’s not necessary though.  It is also normal for baby to loose weight for the first few days and it can take a couple weeks for baby to gain it back. I was actually told the baby doesn’t need to eat the first day because they still have a full belly. I had the same problem and the doctors says just try to get him to latch even if he doesn’t eat. The second day is when they start to get hungry.

Baby's tummy is super super small right now. They only need the little bit of colostrum that you produce. Milk can take 3-5 days on average to come in fully. Just keep latching baby and it will send a signal to your milk to come in. 
(For reference, my baby was born early on a Friday morning, and my milk came in the following Tuesday) still, don't feel bad if you had to supplement a little bit. My big boy (9lbs 7oz) needed a little bit of formula at two days old while waiting for my milk.

It takes a couple days for your milk to actually come in. Until then they get little bits of colostrum. But their bellies are only like the size of a cherry. So maybe an ounce? Half an ounce? That’s why sometimes their weight goes down a few ounces and they go back up. 🤷‍♀️ but no formula isn’t bad for your baby. 
I ended up over feeding my baby once and she threw up everywhere 😂 scared me to death.

Not everyone breast feed and the ones who don’t their kids still survive.  If you not producing milk the baby still has to eat the formula is not going to harm him.

Its not necessary for a baby to eat even the first 24 hours. All formula is doing at that point is harming your breastfeeding journey and expanding the babies tummies

I was lucky and decided to freeze some colostrum ahead because my tata's were well colostrum prepared  early. BUT my actual milk took days to come in and his appetite was eager so it wasn't  giving my nipples enough rest (they hurt and midwives said some time off the boob can help body trigger milk).  I used syringes to feed him a bit those first few days  if I hadn't  had those I would've  needed to do formula myself. 
Don't stress. If you're interested in breastfeeding don't  feel this is a bad sign.  ♡ I won't  lie my first 2 to 3 weeks of breastfeeding were hell. Mastitis twice, once from cracked nipples getting infected and the other from too long a drive and LO slept through so ducts blocked.  After those weeks though it was worth it
