Giving birth in a hospital that you dont want to give birth at ?

Hey ladies. So im frustrated and not sure what to do. My doctor delivers at 2 hospitals. One of the hospitals that i wanted to give birth at lost an agreement with my insurance and they are still attempting to work with them but they will stop accepting my insurance January 1st. Im due january 20th. the other hospital that my doctor delivers at has the worst reviews and doesnt have a nursery. the reviews mean a lot to me. The hospital has 2.5 stars. Thats awful!!! its terrifying delivering at a hospital that everyone says is bad. i called my insurance, called my doctor no one knew what to do. The insurance lady working for my doctor was like well you will just have to give birth at the other hospital. i dont want toooo!!! :( has anyone been in this situation?! help

Are you in the US? If so, there might be a provision in your insurance to cover you. My doctor wasn’t covered by any insurance that I could purchase in January 2018 and I was due in February. Since I was well into my third trimester and had been receiving care from her, whatever insurance I chose was required to cover my doctor (even if they weren’t in network). I think it was called “continuity of care” and it was based on how far along I was in my pregnancy. Not entirely sure if it would work for hospital (instead of doctor), but it took me a long time (and serious amount of stress) to figure that out on my own. Worked out perfectly!

Unless there is a third hospital that does work with your insurance (so you'd just have to change doctors), it sounds like you're stuck. Why don't you take a L&D tour to see if it's really as bad as suggested?

Just curious (have a totally different healthcare system here) why is having a nursery important? Thought the best thing was to have baby with you at all times? 
How old are those reviews, could they have changed things?

Going through the same thing. The hospital is horrible. I was in the ER with my mom and they don’t give you a room at all. This pregnant woman was there in so much pain and they told her she was having a miscarriage in front of everyone. They told her to come back if she starts bleeding more and then they’ll do something. It’s extremely disgusting in my opinion. I hope I find another one before I’m due for sure.

My doctors office only practices at 1 hospital, and I was really hoping for a different one. I even thought about switching doctors, but ultimately I'd rather be more comfortable with my doctor than the hospital. As for the nursery, I second what the other poster mentioned... I believe standard practice is to keep baby with you. I think nurseries in hospitals are kinda out of date, unless it's a medical nursery. Good luck with whatever you decide!
