Lip tie on 4 day old

Marina

Well today we took our daughter to see one of the top dentists in our area who takes care of tongue and lip ties. Flash back to when I had our first daughter 2 years ago, no one at the hospital ever said anything to me about her lip tie or even looked. I struggled with painful breastfeeding with her but managed to just tough it out through the pain thinking oh this is normal. Then I struggled with my milk supply and would take a milk tincture very day to increase my milk. All this time I had no idea she had a lip tie until she was like almost a year old and her teeth we noticed were super far apart in the front. The skin was attached all the way from her lip down, I started researching and turns out that could very well have been the cause of my milk supply issue as well as the pain.

Well I just had my second daughter 4 days ago and as soon as we got home I scheduled an appointment for her to be seen by this dentist for a consultation. They were able to get us in today and sure enough she had a lip tie as well. I was experiencing the same painful latch as I did with my first however my milk just came in on Sunday so that’s been doing good. We decided to have him laser the lip tie to release it. They made us wait in the lobby and the procedure itself only took a matter of seconds, it was still sooo hard to hear her crying😭😢as soon as they were done they came and got me and I was able to nurse her right away. I honestly could not believe the difference it made!!! Absolutely no pain, in fact I was like is she even nursing?! Haha. We have to do little exercises with lifting her lip up every 4 hours for the next few weeks to ensure it doesn’t reattach but she is nursing amazing and doesn’t seem in pain at all! Anyways I wanted to share with you guys, because had I known with my first I would have done this with her 100%!! We will need to get hers done but since she’s 2 now we need to wait until she’s like 5 to be able to sit through the procedure but he said we will want to get it done before her permanent teeth come in.

So if any of you mommas are experiencing any of this with breastfeeding your newborns definitely highly recommend getting into a dentist that does this to see if they have a lip or tongue tie❤️
