SKIN PEELING OFF

This is totally unrelated, but a few days ago my thumb started to itch, after a few days my thumb started to get dry, crusty and started to peel off. I thought it was normal but even the new skin started to peel off?? I decided to not go to the doctor for a minor matter. Has anyone had that happen and what are your tips? I’ve tried moisturizing the area a few times yet still dry.
