Is PGS worth the extra $5000 when going through IVF?

I am looking to do IVF in the spring and the IVF cycle is going to be $14500 not including the medication, baselines, hysteroscopy, etc. I have heard some people do the genetic testing and some dont. Was it worth it for you. I also dont care if I get a boy or a girl. I just want a little one of my own. Any advice about IVF would also be helpful!

I think it depends on your age and what the doctor anticipates the quality of your eggs to be. I’m 28 and PGS never even came up in our appointment.

As an ivf veteran with a few unsuccessful transfers, the emotional cost of each failed transfer added up. I would gladly  pay $5k to avoid that pain again of unsuccessful FETs. I do agree the 5k FET process at the clinic can also add up.

We personally decided against it. It wasn't in our budget was probably the biggest reason, but the more I looked into it, there seems to be some controversy about embryos that are "questionable". While some are clearly normal or abnormal, I've seen some studies where potentially embryos are discarded that may be ok. I don't remember the details. We were also fortunate enough to have 5 blasts, so we knew we had multiple chances. People who do it generally do it because the chances of success are definitely higher, or they don't want to experience a MC, all of which is understandable. For us, it just wasn't in the cards. Despite that, my first transfer (frozen) was successful

I had 5 embryos tested and we came back with only one that was chromosomally normal. I can’t imagine doing 4 transfers with abnormal embryos before we got to our one good one. And even then it’s not guaranteed, so for us it was a no brainer to reduce risk as much as possible.

I think PGS is more so worth it if you have a lot of blastocysts, regardless of your age. A lot of doctors don’t recommend it if you are young, but then you look up the stats and 50-60% of embryos are abnormal regardless of your age.
I was 27 when I did my egg retrieval and we had 9 blasts, 4 came back normal after PGS testing. I was disappointed that it was less than half but my RE reassured me it was good. He sent out 13 blasts once and just one came back normal, that woman was only 30. Again, if you only have 3 blasts then maybe it’s not worth the testing. But in my case 4 out of 9 were normal. That’s a lot of transfers we could’ve done that wouldn’t of worked out. Anyway, we did our first FET on Nov 2nd and got our BFP. I’m 6 weeks and 2 days. Definitely feel PGS testing was 100% worth it!

We did it because I wanted to be re assured my embryo I was transferring was as normal as it could be. Transferred one of my pgs normal baby girls and she sticked and I felt less nervous now because I know she is healthy.

I’m not sure that it is worth it. We did it and 4/7 were normal. The first two have failed - I thought it would reduce our chances of failure but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

I recently read a study that found a higher incidence of clinical pregnancy with PGS but ultimately there was no difference in live the birth rate between PGS and non PGS tested IVF pregnancies.
 But I'm not an RE, I doubt it's that black and white.

I’m not 100% sure. But my husband and I decided if we have to go to the IVF our RE does buy 3 at 20,000$ and if they don’t work you get 75% of your money back. That to us is better then spending 15,000$ on one IVF and it not work!

Risk of transferring abnormal embryo is worth the extra money. You go through all that and end up misscarrying cause you didn’t do testing you’ll be devastated
