Is honey unethical?

Mo

Since we are all foodies, I thought this would be a great discussion starter.

Do you think honey production is unethical?

I'd strongly recommend looking up beekeeper practices etc prior to discussion.

To summarise: Essentially honey is theft of bee's food, making them work more or potentially starve to death if the producer doesn't meet strict standards and ensures there's enough for the working hive.

To clarify: There are reputable, responsible and caring beekeepers about. I'm talking specifically about mass produced, industrialised honey. The stuff you buy in the shop from unknown sources/flowers/origin etc.

If you feel it unethical, how do you counteract this?

Knowing what you now know, will it change the way you purchase honey or the steps you'd take to buy from a reputable beekeeper?
