What do you consider a hookup to be?

Hey y’all so I keep seeing things on tv and other places where people will mention hooking up with someone. To me this means they had sex but many times it’s later revealed that they only kissed so what is y’alls opinion on this?

When I was in jr high/high school (many many moons ago lol) it meant “make-out”. Somewhere along the way it’s started to mean fool around or have some type of sex.
For the record, my grandma 👵🏻 uses it in the context of people making plans to hang out platonically and/or romantically and we all think it’s the funniest. 😂 “Oh, Sydney and Brian are going to hook-up this summer. That’ll be nice!”

I’m in my 30s n i assume if a guy wants to hook up he wants sex and tbh ive never been wrong in my dating experiences (and theyve never had sex with me either)

Hook up means any sort of interaction between kissing/making out and full on sex. It used to be used exclusively for “making out” but older people started using it to mean something more explicit.

A hookup is having sex with someone when you are not in a committed relationship with them. This could happen several times, or just once. A one night stand is a hookup that happens just one time, and you do not plan on interacting with them in any way in the future
