Broken ring after loss of husband

I lost my father unexpectedly a few months back. My mom came over to my house and put some bags in my room, she came out and looked pretty upset and said "my ring broke.." the weird thing is, is that it's a day after their wedding anniversary. 20 years with the same ring and a day after her first anniversary alone the ring just.. detached from her finger. Could this mean anything or is it just a weird creepy coincidence?
