Can breastfed babies overeat?

I really am just interested in hearing everyones opinion on the subject. I'm a new mom who is exclusively bf and I've heard so many things.

Yes they certainly can. It usually goes hand in hand with and oversupply. I had this issue with my son. It was much worse the first several weeks though.

I think it depends on the baby. My son nurses for every reason. If hes sick, tired, teething, has reflux...which causes him to overeat. He will want to nurse every hour even though hes 6 months old and just had a 5 ounce bottle an hour ago. But nursing is the only thing that calms him down.

No, babies breastfeed on demand and don’t overeat. Some will nurse longer then they actually eat for comfort and just like to suck, ... it doesn’t mean they are always taking in milk, but it is ok for your supply. If you feel your feeding sessions are lasting very long you may be being used as a pacifier 😉

It’s definitely possible for a baby to overeat. My daughter did it all the time in the first few weeks. Her pediatrician said it’s not uncommon especially with NICU babies. I would just make her stop if I noticed her stomach was becoming engorged and burp her and try to keep her calm for 30 min or so before we tried to feed again. 
Every time I gave in and just fed her when I knew she was full--she would throw up and then tried to eat again bc now her stomach was empty. 
Sometimes it’s hard for babies to learn what feeling full means for a while. 
Every baby is different and just because one person has never experienced a symptom, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, they just got lucky in that area lol, cleaning up after her constantly overeating sucked lol

I don’t really think so, I think if anything they may do it more out of comfort. Some days my kid eats every hour other days it’s ever 4 hours. When it’s every hour he normally doesn’t eat long but when he goes long stretches he nurses longer. Every baby is different though

I don’t think so they just feed on demand when my little one is hungry he eats when he’s full he’ll push out tongue to get away lol the first 2 weeks or so are hard they cluster feed so your feeding them aaaalllllll the time after that you should fall into a regular routine and breastfeeding will be a piece of cake after that
