Twin to twin transfusion testing?

When did your doctor start checking or testing for twin to twin transfusion syndrome? I mean, what week?
I’m pregnant with mono/di twins and I’ve chosen to see my regular OB instead of a high risk specialist. My doctor is only doing ultrasounds at 20 weeks and then once a month after. I’m currently 12 weeks and won’t be getting another ultrasound until February. My visits until then will only be Dopplers. 
Would a high risk specialist do more frequent ultrasounds or test for different syndromes and disorders than my OB is going to test for?

I’m shocked your OB even gave you the choice. Seeing a specialist was absolutely non-negotiable for me. Ultrasounds every two weeks are completely necessary. It’s for the health of your babies don’t risk it.

With mo/di twins you 100% NEED to be seen every two weeks by an MFM. Is there a reason you chose to forgo an MFM? Twin to twin can happen in 2 weeks time it literally can go from fine to tragedy in less then two weeks which is why with mo/di twins you should be seeing a doctor and having an in depth scan every two weeks. Twin to twin can happen anytime. I stated seeing my MFM from 9 weeks till delivery and we checked every two weeks for any signs of Twin to twin. There were several times it was looking bad and I had to come in every other day for a week just to be sure. It is EXTREMELY dangerous to not be seen and have an ultrasound every two weeks. If they catch it early enough they can perform a surgery and save your baby/babies. Please consider going to a high risk doctor if your obgyn won’t give you the care you need.

Nope. Don't risk it.  biweekly. I had an appointment at 12 weeks that was amazingly pwrfect and at 13.6 i was diagnosed with stage 2 ttts. Get a doctor who won't miss a detail

I started seeing my mfm at around 13 weeks, everything was wonderful, my twins looked great, I was seeing her every few weeks and at my regularly scheduled appointment at 21 weeks I found out my twins had TTTS, stage 3, the Doppler’s were off and they could not see baby As bladder and he had no fluid in his sac. Baby B had way too much, they say I was sent out of the state for laser Surgery. My husband and I arrived at the hospital around 11 pm that night, the doctors immediately did an ultrasound there and told me it did not look good, both of my babies were dying and the surgery needed to be done immediately! I was prepped and in surgery an hour later. Had I not seen my MFM arhat day my babies would not be here today! After that I saw my MFM every week for a month then every two weeks until I delivered to monitor things! My baby boys are 14 months now and I consider them miracles ! You MUST see an MFM! Your regular OB is not even trained to handle certain things that a multiple pregnancy entails! My babies had been perfect 2 and a half weeks before they found the TTTS, it literally came on almost overnight! Thankfully I was monitored so closely and the surgery was a success!

Started getting ultrasounds at mfm at 14 weeks for ttts and every 2 weeks after that. Your ob is the doctor for you the mfm is the doctor for the babies. I literally saw a doc every week. I would see my ob one week and then the mfm the next. You will get soooo many more in depth ultra sounds and scans to check placenta, cords, organs, hearts, brains, fluids,etc.

Are you having identical or fraternal? 
I’m having identical (mono/di) and my doctor checks for tts every appointment.. I see him every two weeks for testing, appointment, and ultrasound. Next week at 28 weeks I will start seeing him weekly and then eventually twice a week. Our twins share a placenta which makes tts more common as they have to share all nutrients which is why I was asking if you’re having identical or not, I’m shocked your doctor gave you a choice to see a specialist or not I was referred immediately and not given an option, and how little ultrasounds and monitoring you will be receiving..

I was seen every two weeks but and at 19 weeks my regular OB send me away to the hospital is a long sad story but I did have TTTS and had to have a laser ablation.... only lasted 3 days after that but if I had a choice I would do it again to give them the best chance! I am 10 weeks pregnant now with 1 baby so keep praying but every doctor that I have seen or talked to has been surprised this happened because it is SO rare!￼

I know I’m just repeating what everyone else wrote, but I’m 18 weeks with mo/di boys and I’ve been having sonos every two weeks since my 7 weeks sono showed twins! The first two (7 and 9) were at my obgyn to confirm mono/di and then since 12 weeks I’ve been going to my MFM. I still have routine appts with my obgyn to do blood work/urine analysis and they will be the ones to eventually deliver me. 
But every appt with the MFM is a sono and they really check for any complications (e.g., cord placement, TTTS, size discrepancy, preeclampsia, etc). I’m relieved to be monitored so well because complications like TTTS can show up really quickly!
