Obligated to give holiday gifts to child(ren)'s teachers?

I've seen posts circulating about people feeling obligated to buy gifts for their children's teachers, especially younger grades. So I'm curious, do you feel obligated? What do you get them?

Also, I've seen posts and articles written by teachers about the things they dont want. Mugs, lotions, candles, and homemade goodies top the list. A lot said they dont trust homemade treats based on the "booger picking" and lack of hygiene they see in the class so all homemade food gifted to them goes straight in the trash. Honestly I found that part kinda heart breaking; a friend of mine always makes jam and biscotti to send to her children's teachers and the thought of them just throwing it away make me sad.
