Midwife or OBGYN/hospital?

Question

Would you have a midwife assisted home birth or natural birthing center birth or would you have a birth at a hospital with an OB? Why or why not did you choose one or the other?

I love the idea of a midwife assisted home birth! However i think if a person like myself has a history of high risk pregnancies then its most likely in your best interests to go with a hospital delivery. 🙂

I chose hospital, because I needed the feeling that if anything went wrong, I would have access to all the necessary medical care there and then. That being said, there is always a nurse midwife on duty at my hospital, so I was guided through the whole process by her anyway!

I’ve had one hospital birth (my first. It ended in a c section) followed by three home births. Loved loved loved my home births. I chose cnm midwives because they bring anything needed for emergencies and are able to take care of those at home. If transfer needed that can be done. My last birth I lost a lot of blood but my midwife was able to control it without sending me in. Which means I was able to rest at home in my own bed without the stresses I found in hospital or in going home from hospital. For me, I felt safer at home, like I was taken care of. People call me courageous for doing a home birth, but the truth is, my hospital birth was so horrific that I’m really just terrified to have another one at a hospital. Plus, I like having my kids around for the experience. Figured I would share from the other side.

Here the standard is midwives at a hospital. There's always obgyns and specialist pediatricians on call if something happens to either mum or baby. Typically the only time an obgyn will deliver a baby is if it's breech, it's multiples, or something happens, and of course if a C-section is required for some reason.

I'm having (and had) a midwife assisted birth in hospital. That way if something need to be intervened on the OBGYN is there and can step in to help. Best of both worlds

I chose OB & hospital because it's much safer. I know anything can happen at any time and making it to a hospital in time is sometimes impossible but I'd much rather have an OB and birth my baby at the hospital. What if you start hemorrhaging at home while giving birth or the baby gets stuck with cord around the neck during delivery or it's breached. What if the baby doesn't start breathing or what if your blood pressure gets really high and  I just need answers lol..this is what I think of and the hospital is much safer and sterile.

I would definitely say midwife, I had a obgyn with my first it was fine but with this one I went with a midwife and it has been the best experience ever.

The hospital I’m going to has Obgyn and midwifes, the midwifes work more nights that the Obgyn. I choose hospital because I’m high risk for premature labor. It’s not safe for me to deliver at home

I have 4 kids and would never opt for a birthing center even though I hate hospitals. Reason being 2 of my friends had very normal healthy pregnancies and had spontaneous serious emergencies of fetal distress arise. Yes they can get you to the hospital, but by the time they get you there, IV, get an OR ready, page an OBGYN on call. ...all that takes time. I opted for a hospital birth and then requested an early discharge. I think the midwife is fine, but at a hospital where an OB is on the premises at all times  (not every hospital has that. ....some just page them, others require one always
