Baby hates & loves swaddling?

Question

Am I doing this right?
Our little 3 day old SCREAMS like I am trying to murder him while swaddling him up. He'll fight it the whole time, and I have to pin his arms down forceablly to make it work. It often end with one arm poking out a bit anyway.
BUT! Once he's in, and if for the love of all that is good I get both arms pinned down, he sleeps like a baby 😉
So I guess my question is: Am I doing more harm by putting him and myself through this extremely stressful process? I'm not sure if when people say "my baby didn't like swaddling so we gave up", that it was because of the process or because they didn't sleep well in it. Because the end result works, but getting him there has been Hell so far.
Thoughts?
I'm looking at zip up swaddles or the special swaddle blankets with tabs and velcro or whatever to maybe make this easier. So any recommendations for a newborn would be amazing too.

Honestly, your baby is fine. My son did the same thing but we kept swaddling because he loved it after it was done. He just doesn’t know what’s happening and wants comfort right away. I would keep swaddling.

Yep! Ours does the same thing. She’s 10 weeks and screeaaaammmssss until you pick her up after you’re done and then she’s fine 🙃😂

Update - got the Halo sleepsack and it took him all of 5 minutes to get his arms out! Oh this kid!
Now working on swaddle blanket/sleep sack combo...

What happens if you don't swaddle? Does he not sleep well? I'd say try it. If he sleeps well with no swaddling, then just stop doing it. If he can't sleep, then I'd say the benefits outweigh and would swaddle.

I used the Velcro ones with my second daughter because I never could figure out how to swaddle properly with my first. She couldn’t stand her arms being down so we switched to a halo sleep sack. It keeps her warm but her Arms are free

They get so frustrated! But I’d say if it helps the baby sleep they ultimately like it. I’m sure over time babe will get used to the process. I got the nested bean swaddle sack given to me and I hate the Velcro how it goes in the back and over time peels up a bit, I can’t imagine sleeping on the seam being comfortable so I switched to the swaddle me brand and they have worked great. My first hated being swaddled (wouldn’t sleep well in it) and so we did the halo sleep sacks

If baby sleeps well once swaddled just keep doing it. My daughter absolutely hates getting her diaper changed but we power through. It should only take a minute or two to swaddle.
