Vaccines and Infants
I’m due to have my baby soon. My family have all had their whooping cough vaccines (I went with them) because we were advised that anyone who was to be around the baby should be vaccinated for the health of the baby and her weak immune system.
Yet my boyfriend has refused to go get his needles and he hasn’t told his family that they need to go get them done too. He keeps saying he will but he prioritises going out with friends and playing video games over a 20min trip to the doctors.
The doctor said people should have it two weeks before seeing the baby, as it gives it time for their body to build up the antibodies (idk exact terms as I’m not a nurse/doctor but this was the advice I was given by them).
I’ve told my boyfriend that I’d like his family to see the baby, but I will refuse to let people see her in the early days if they are not vaccinated. I will not put her at risk. They can see her once she’s old enough to get her own vaccines if that’s the case.
Is that fair?
What if he doesn’t get round to getting his vaccines? Do I tell him he can’t see the baby till he gets them?
Advice?
*i know there will be differing opinions between people who are anti-vac people and pro-vac people. But this is my baby and I’ve met people who have had their babies die from interacting with people and catching an illness, which could have been preventable
