Cramps

So I know being on the pill suppresses ovulation so I don’t release an egg. But every month I still get the feeling of ovulation, like I still can feel one side specifically every month before I bleed kinda twitch and cramp rather than both sides like a typical cramp. Is this regular for most birth controls or is my current pill not strong enough? I’ve been on it for about 3 years with no issues other than this month when I was 21 days late with a very light period currently.
