Having a sweep????

Question

Ok I’m 40+3 today so I’m uncomfortably overdue but I have a midwife appointment in the morning where she will offer me a sweep.. I don’t really want to go into labour on Christmas eve/Christmas Day.. obviously if it happens naturally I can’t control that but I’m thinking to decline the sweep and hope he holds on until after Christmas? What’s everyone’s experiences with having a sweep? Should I wait or should I have it and see what happens? I really don’t know 😢
Edit - I also have a 4 year old who is so excited for Christmas and I wouldn’t want to miss spending it with him, hence I don’t wanna be in over Christmas! Also I have a sister in law who gave birth last Boxing Day and she always thinks everyone wants to be like her and she keeps making a joke about how I’ll give birth the same day because I want to be her 😂😂

I personally would skip it. Only because I wouldn’t want to be in over Christmas either and I’d prefer to be pregnant a few days longer than be in the hospital over my favorite holiday (especially with having another little at home). Obviously there is still a chance that even without a sweep you could go into labor and be in the hospital over the holiday but yes at that point it’s out of your control haha.

I’m not due until 26th but saw midwife today and decided I wouldn’t have had one if offered for the same reasons as you, although you’re a week due her on so a week more fed up than I am 🙈 if it helps I had two sweeps in my last pregnancy anyway and they didn’t work so I don’t think I’ll bother this time, I hope it happens for you as soon as Xmas is out the way xx

I went into labour about 12 hours after my sweep, was already dilated and almost fully effaced when I had the sweep so I possibly could have gone into labour without it

I was supposed to give birth yesterday but baby doesn’t want to come, my doctor gave the option to go in today but I rather wait since my 2 little ones r so ready for Xmas I don’t want to be at the hospital n them at home without me, I’m going on the 26

I’ve had 3 in the last couple weeks, still nothing. This is my third. He’s not overdue yet, but I was trying to avoid being pregnant over the holidays.

Yeah it’s a gamble, I had a sweep done last Thursday and nothing happened. I had another one done today and today is my due date. Though I’d prefer not to be in the hospital on Christmas I wouldn’t mind if it meant I didn’t have to get induced (which I have scheduled for Friday)
