first hookup advice?

so I’ve been talking to this guy and we are always on and off again flirting bc I have been in relationships but now I’ve been out of one for a couple of months so I decided to give in. I don’t know if I’m being impulsive I am attracted to him but now to the extent he is with me. He like texts me a lot (like I come back to 17 messages from him) bc he’s excited but I feel like it’s kinda childish but maybe I’m just a bitch. I’ve gotten close to hooking up with other guys but I’ve gotten scared since I’m a virgin but I’m planning on losing my virginity to this guy since I do trust him but I don’t know if that’s a good idea. Is this a dumb idea please let me know also if I do follow through what’s some advice for losing it and just hooking up in general!
