Okay so I’m a first time mom and I plan on breastfeeding and pumping breast milk. But I’m worried that right now I have no bottles or formula in the event my milk isn’t coming or idk any situation.... I’m over due 6 days scheduling to be induced on the 1st. And I haven’t even purchased the pumping bags I plan on using Kiinde... I’m waiting til the 1st for my FSA to kick in. 
Should I buy bottles and formula in case or stop tripping lol oh I was also told that the hospital gives you formula to take home...

Your milk takes about 2-7 days to come in but your baby needs very little in that time! They feed often so that’s normal as well. I never bought formula, not even to have as a back up. My kids never got formula in the hospital either. So it’s not necessary. Just keep putting baby to your breast and your body will know what to do! I also suggest doing some research into what breastfeeding can be like in the first few weeks so you know what to expect. Look into topics like how much baby actually eats during that time, cluster feeding, supply and demand of breastmilk, things like that. A lot of “signs” that ppl take into them not making enough milk or baby not satisfied are usually totally normal things for a breastfed baby.

I would have them just incase. I planned on only breastfeeding my baby but didnt make enough milk and had to supplement with formula from day one. It's better to have it now then have to run out and get it later.

You’ll need bottles if you’re going to pump. So I’d get those. And then just some free samples of formula.

I HIGHLY recommend getting bottles anyways (for when you pump) but also formula in case you need to supplement it for some reason breastfeeding doesn't work out. I wanted to breastfeed my LO but no matter what I tried and how many lactation consults I saw, little man didn't want to latch properly (he was tested for a tongue tie) and I just wasn't producing much so when I got home, after having an emergency c-section, it was rough trying to get formula as I could not drive for 2 weeks and I didn't want to be left home alone with baby so soon. My mom had to drive 30 miles over to bring me formula so my husband wouldn't leave me alone with baby. It is always better to be safe than sorry. Even if it is just one can of formula for now

I would see if you could get samples from registry boxes to start off with I am an over preparer though I signed up for enfamil and got a big box of formula for free I got 3 cans of formula and 2 premixed samples with nipples

If you plan on pumping, you’ll need bottles. Why else would you pump? But, it’s not like you need to run out and stock up like crazy.   You can wait to see how breastfeed goes or until you start pumping as long as you can get to the store easily enough.

I never bought formula. At the beginning you hardly make milk, and the baby will eat every 15-30 min so it’s easy to believe you’re not producing enough. I went through this, and if I had formula or bottles I would have stopped or supplemented. But because I didn’t, I kept on. I tried to pump and I wasn’t producing hardly any that way either. But he was getting what he needed, my body adjusted to his needs, and he is 2 now and still breastfeeding. I eventually made more than he needed. Again, those first few weeks and even months are a trail and error. You won’t make enough, then the glands are activated and you’ll make enough, then go back down, then back up and so on. Then things stabilize. It’s easy to give up at the beginning and just chalk it up to not making enough, and that can happen, but it’s not as common as one would think. I personally would have messed up the breastfeeding process had I had a back up. I’m so glad I didn’t.

If you plan on pumping you’ll need bottles. I planned to breast feed so I didn’t buy any formula. My baby had no problems latching and did great. We introduced a bottle because I went back to work and I still pump. She’s 6 months old and has never had formula. 
My milk took about 4 days to come in. So don’t panic if you don’t have milk for a little while! Your baby’s tummy is so tiny they only need the little bit of colostrum you produce. 
The more you let your baby feed in the first few days/weeks will determine your milk supply. Good luck!

I would def. get bottles. My baby is EBF several
weeks ago he did a number on one of my nipples. It was soooo painful to latch him but I kept pushing through. The LC suggested that we take a 48 hr break from the boob. I’m glad I had the bottles because the several day break allowed my breast to to heal and now we don’t have issues. Also, they came in handy when baby was congested and refused to latch due to not being able to breathe as well
